Our little, sweet Winnie was viciously attacked by another dog on Feb. 29.  Her injuries were very severe and the vet recommended that she be put to sleep.  Winnie suffered a deep bite on her leg, along with the same leg pulled out of the socket.  The vet had never seen anything like this before and felt that Winnie would not be able to survive two ortho surgeries in one day. We are hoping that the owner  will do the right thing and pay for her medical expenses. We are so saddened by her loss. Winnie had a tragic background where she was left for days without food or water by her previous owner.  The LA Animal Services was building a case against Winnie's original owner on animal cruelty. When AIF went to the shelter to report the attack, the officer knew who Winnie was and immediately remembered the case.  Sadly, LAAS decided not to press charges against the owner.  Twice in Winnie's life, human beings let her down.  We are so glad that she finally knew love, joy and tenderness from her foster, volunteers at the shelter and Angels in Fur. 

UPDATE: When we pulled Winnie from West Valley Shelter, she was being held as an evidence dog. This means that her previous owner had caused this poor girl such cruelty, that Los Angeles Animal Services (LAAS ) was building a case to prosecute him.
